Huge quantity of illegal liquor seized in Assam’s Biswanath district

Guwahati, Mar 15 (IBNS): Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, police and Assam state excise department officials have seized a huge quantity of illegal liquor in north Assam’s Biswanath district in the past 48 hours.

Reports said the police and excise department team had jointly carried out the operation at different areas in Biswanath district and seized a huge quantity of illegal liquor came from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.

Based on intelligence inputs, a Hyundai Santro car was intercepted on the NH-15 and 23 cartons of illegal liquor was seized.

Police had arrested the driver, who has been identified as Biswanath Shah. He has admitted to ferrying all the illegal liquor from Arunachal Pradesh.

In separate operation, the officials seized a huge quantity of illegal liquor from an abandoned vehicle at Bedeti in the district.

An excise official of Biswanath district said that they, along with the police, were continuing their operations against the illegal liquor in the district.

“We are continuing our operations against illegal liquor. Yesterday, we had recovered huge quantity of illegal liquor from a Santro car and also launched operation at a dhaba and seized illegal liquor. Today we had recovered huge quantity of illegal liquor from an abandoned vehicle,” the excise official said.

The Lok Sabha elections in Assam will be held in first three phases on April 11, 18 and 23.
