Howrah: Firemen rescue seven persons after a dilapidated building collapse; godown gutted

Kolkata, May 7 (UNI) Fire Brigade personnel today rescued seven people after they got stuck inside their rooms following collapse of a portico of a dilapidated building at Bandaghat more under Salkia police station in Howrah district.

The house collapsed at around 09 30 hours and the seven inmates were stuck inside their rooms on the second floor for hours before they were evacuated safely.

In another incident a stockyard of a multinational company was completely gutted following a major fire at Santoshpur under Duttapukur block in North 24 Parganas.

Preliminary report said an explosion took place in the generator room and then the godown, the storehouse of green vegetables and other food articles, was soon razed to the ground.
