Himahcal Pradesh: BJP MP Ram Swaroop files nomination from Mandi

Shimla, Apr 24 (UNI) Sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ram Swaroop Sharma filed his nomination papers from Mandi Parliamentary constituency on Wednesday.

Mr Sharma, who is contesting for the second time turned up with the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, party's state president Satpal Singh Sati and Transport Minister Govind Thakur along with others before the Returning Officer.

During his nomination process, former Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal and party election in charge for state Tirath Singh Rawat were also present.

CM Jai Ram Thakur claimed that during the canvassing he had visited about 25 assembly segment and saw clear swing in favour of BJP.

He claimed that party would retain all the four seat in the 17th Lok Sabha and Mr Sharma would be elected once again as a parliamentarian.

Ram Swaroop Sharma fought last election against former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's wife and former MP Pratibha Singh in 2014 and won by difference of about 39,000 votes.

He is pitted against the grandson Ashray Sharma of Pt Sukh Ram this time.

Mandi parliamentary segment is largest in the country after Jaisalmair of Rajsathan and Ladhak in J&K as the tribal areas of Chamba including Pangi, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnuar also fall under this constituency.

The polling for Lok Sabha election in the state would be held on May 19 and counting of votes and result to be declared on May 23.

The BJP and Congress are neck to neck in all parliamentary segments in the state.
