Heavy security for counting of votes in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 19 (IBNS) A three tier security arrangement has been made in all 90 counting centres across West Bengal on Thursday as the stated waited with bated breath to know the outcome of the assembly polls in 294 seats.

The state police & CPF (central police force) are ensuring security in the counting centres where counting begins at 8 am.

Around 100 meters of all counting centres, CrPC 144 section has been imposed. No vehicles will be allowed to park inside the area. A total 294 ECI observers are present.

Parties' supporters have to stay behind barricades, 200 meters away from counting stations.

In Kolkata Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Hdq) Supratim Sarkar told IBNS: "A fool-proof security arrangement has been made in Kolkata's 9 counting centres. CrPC section 144 is effective within a 100-metre-radius outside of all counting centres. "

He said as many as 7 companies of CPF and 2000 Kolkata Police personnel have been deployed.

In each counting centre, 2 RT units and 5 mobile units will be ready for immediate intervention. KP have made 233 police pickets across the city.

Besides all divisional Deputy Commissioners (DC), 14 senior officials of the rank of DCs are overseeing the situation outside counting centres. All entry and exit points of the city are under tight observation.
