HC refuses to let Chavan off housing scam case

| | Mar 04, 2015, at 06:47 pm
New Delhi, Mar 4(IBNS) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed an application filed by Maharashtra Congress president and former chief minister Ashok Chavan for recall of an earlier order and refused to drop his name from the charge-sheet of the multi-crore Adarsh Housing Society scam.

In November 2014, the Bombay High Court had turned down the plea of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to drop Chavan's name as an accused in the multi-crore Adarsh housing scam.

The CBI contended that since it had no material to prosecute Chavan and Governor had refused to grant sanction, he should be discharged from the case.

Chavan had to resign as CM after the Adarsh scam came to the fore in 2010 triggering a nationwide uproar. He was the revenue minister when the state government approved allotment of 40 per cent flats.
