Haryana lab says beef found in samples collected by police

Chandigarh, Sep 9 (IBNS): A government lab in Hisar, Haryana, has confirmed that five of the seven biryani samples collected by the Haryana police in Mewat contain beef, according to media reports on Friday.

The state police had collected the samples from the Muslim dominated Mewat in Haryana on Thursday in a bid to check the meat ahead of the Eid festival.

The chief of the Haryana Cow Welfare Commission, Bhani Ram Mangla, visited Mewat on Tuesday and instructed the police to make sure no beef biryani is sold, reported NDTV.

In Haryana, punishment for cow slaughter is 10 years in jail while a person trading in beef can be jailed for five years.
