Hardik Patel arrested on way to Mandsaur

New Delhi, June 13 (IBNS) : Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel and his supporters were arrested on Tuesday morning in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district while on their way to Mandsaur, the scene of last week’s violent farmers’ agitation, media reports said

According to reports, he was arrested for violating prohibitory orders under 144 Cr P C.

The orders have been in place in the area since last week, when six farmers died when the police opened fire to control the crowd at a farmers' protest.

“I am not a terrorist. I have not come from Lahore. I am an Indian citizen and can go to any place in India freely. Members of my family have been killed and I came to meet their families”, Patel told media persons at Nayagaon immediately after his arrest.

Mandsaur and adjoining districts were rocked by farmers' protests last week as they demanded better crop prices and a loan waiver after rates at local markets crashed.

Five people were killed in firing. The protesters  burnt vehicles, ransacked property and set police stations on fire.
