Hardcore ULFA (I) militant gunned down in Assam

Guwahati, May 18 (IBNS): A hardcore militant belonging to ULFA (I) was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Udalguri district on Thursday evening, officials said.

Based on intelligence input, troops of army and police jointly launched operation at Uttar Borpukhuri area in the BTAD district where a militant group was hiding.

“When the security personnel reached the remote area, the militants started fire and heavy rounds of bullet were exchanged,” a top police official said.

During the gun fight, a hardcore militant was killed on spot, identified as self styled Sergeant Major Rajesh Bora.

Security personnel recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site.

The top police official said that, other militants of the group managed to flee from the area.

Security forces have cordoned the area and launched massive operation to nab the fled militants.
