Guwahati, Jan 18 (IBNS): Security forces apprehended a hardcore NDFB(S) ultra from Assam's Udalguri district on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the reports, a joint team of Army and Udalguri Police apprehended one dreaded NDFB(S) militant from Daiphang village area near Udalguri.

Based on specific intelligence input, joint team of Red Horns Div and Udalguri Police launched an operation during the late evening on Jan 17.

"An ambush was laid on the likely route of suspected militants. On being challenged the militant tried to flee by melting into thick foliage. He was nabbed and found to be in possession of one AK series assault rifle with one magazine and ten live rounds," an army official said.

During investigation it emerged that the apprehended ultra was Pushpo Basumatary alias B Fighter, an active and most wanted militant from Kokrajhar.

On the other hand, the Red Horns Division and Assam Police, based on specific inputs from Military Intelligence, launched an operation in the area of Nayekgaon in Kokrajhar District and apprehended three persons moving suspiciously.

The three men were identified as Zehrul Islam, Joved Ali and Ajit Ali all residents of Bongaigaon District.

The three have confessed to be linkmen and gun runners for Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA).

Seven rifles have been recovered from the linkmen.

The men are also involved in extortion and arms dealing activities, on behalf of the group.

The apprehensions and recovery of seven Rifles shall further restrict the operating space available to the terrorist outfits and would strengthen the moral ascendency maintained by the security forces.

It would facilitate efforts towards curbing extortion and illegal weapon dealing in the area.
