Hardcore GNLA militant killed in East Garo Hills encounter

Guwahati, Nov 26 (IBNS) : A hardcore militant of Meghalaya’s Garo outfit group Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in an encounter with security personnel in East Garo Hills on Friday night, police said on Saturday.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input Meghalaya police commandos had launched operation at Songmarge village in the hill district at around 8-45 pm on Friday.

“When the security personnel reached the remote area, the militants who took shelter at the area started fire and bullets were exchanged from both sides. In which a hardcore militant was killed on spot and others of the group had managed to escape,” a top police official said.

The slain militant was identified as Ruga belong to the 6th batch of GNLA and trained in the general camp in Durama hills.

Security personnel had recovered an AK series rifle, one pistol, several rounds ammunition in possession from him.
