Guwahati police arrest tenant for molesting a 7-year-old minor girl

Guwahati, July 25 (IBNS): Guwahati city police have arrested a man for allegedly molesting a 7-year-old minor girl in the city.

According to the reports, the arrested person, who was identified as 30-year-old Sanjeev Kalita, was residing at Narengi forest gate area in the capital city of Assam.

He was a tenant at a house nearby the victim’s house along with his wife.

He had a close relationship with the victim’s family.

The victim’s family had lodged a complaint at Noonmati police station on July 23 night after the minor girl shared the incident with her parents.

The parents of the victim girl said that, the culprit had molested her 20 days back.

Following the complaint, Guwahati city police had registered a case (no 425/2018) under Section 10 of POCSO Act and arrested the accused person on Tuesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Guwahati city police Purabi Mazumdar said that, police had received the complaint lately, but immediately registered a case and arrested the culprit.

“We had produced the accused person before the court and court sent him to judicial custody,” Purabi Mazumdar said.
