Guwahati city police seize large stash of contraband drugs, two held

Guwahati/IBNS: In its biggest ever drug bust, a team of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Sonapur Police Station led by ADCP Bibekanand Das seized a total of 4.6 lakh Yaba tablets, 12 kg of Methamphetamine and 1.5 kg of Heroin from a truck.

The police team intercepted a truck at the Tollgate near Sonapur and arrested two smugglers on Tuesday night.

The drugs were being smuggled inside a secret compartment between the driver’s cabin and the goods carriage space of the truck.

“This major haul is a huge blow to the drug trafficking chain in the region. While investigation is on, the two persons arrested so far in this connection,” a police official said.

The arrested persons were identified as Khangembam Mangi Singh (43) of Chingtham village under Khongjom PS in Thoubal district of Manipur and Shagolsem Manglemjao Singh (32) of  Sapam under Khongjom PS in Thoubal district of Manipur.
Legal action has been initiated.
