Guwahati city police seize 4.5 kg of heroin worth Rs 31.50 crore from a truck, two arrested

Guwahati/IBNS: Guwahati city police seized 4.5 kg of heroin worth around Rs 31 crore from a truck here on Monday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Basistha police station and Gorchuk police station led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation and intercepted a truck on National Highway – 37 at Basistha area in Guwahati.

The police team recovered 4.5 kg of heroin which was kept hidden in the bumper of the truck.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta – Joint Commissioner of Police said that the truck bearing registration number JH-19A-5623 was coming from Manipur and the smugglers kept the drugs in the bumper of the truck.

“During search, we have recovered 4.5 kg of heroin and the market value of the seized drugs is estimated around Rs 31.50 crore to Rs 36 crore. We have arrested two persons,” Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Edomi and Mohammad Nawaz Khan and both are hailing from Thoubal district of Manipur.

The top police official further said that a case (no – 151/2022) has been registered at Basistha police station under section 21(c), 24, 29 of NDPS Act.
