Gurmeet Ram Rahim gets lifer in journalist murder case

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IBNS): Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been awarded a life imprisonment in 2002 murder case of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati, media reports said.

Jagdeep Singh, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge in Panchkula, delivered the verdict on Thursday.

Chhatarpati was the editor of Poora Sach newspaper.

Dera manager Krishan Lal and two Dera carpenters- Kuldeep Singh and Nirmal Singh- have also been awarded life imprisonment.

Since Aug 2017, Ram Rahim is serving two 10-year jail term for raping two of his devotees in 2002. He has also been fined Rs.15 lakh in each case.

Jagdeep Singh delivered the verdict via video conference on Thursday.

On Jan 11, a special Haryana court had convicted the Dera chief in the journalist murder case.
