Gurdaspur terrorists came from Pakistan : Rajnath Singh

| | Jul 30, 2015, at 08:40 pm
New Delhi, Jul 30 (IBNS) Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the terrorists who attacked Gurdaspur came from Pakistan.

"Terrorists who attacked Gurdaspur came from Pak via Ravi river, says hints from GPS," he said while making a statement in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said India will give a strong reply reply to those who are engaging in terror activities from across the border.

"The government is committed to give a befitting reply to those who try to undermine India's security. Any terror activity from across the border will be defeated," he said.

Singh appreciated Punjab police for their "successful operation" against the terrorists.

Two policemen, including the Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Baljit Singh, two homeguards and all the three terrorists who fought a prolonged battle with security forces from inside Dinanagar police station were killed in the encounter.  Earlier, the terrorists had killed three civilians.

During the Home Minister's statement the opposition stormed the well of the house expressing anger over the incident. The opposition members also raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government.

Both houses of Parliament condemned the Gurdaspur terror attack and expressed condolences to families of those who died.

As the Lok Sabha assembled for the day’s proceedings, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan made obituary references to the martyrs of the terrorist attack.

The House was adjourned for the day as the last rites of former president APJ Abdul Kalam were held.

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari said:  “Seven persons, including four security personnel, were killed and 16, including six security personnel, were injured in the terrorist attack."

“This dastardly attack is deplorable and the loss of lives in this act of senseless violence is indeed tragic and unfortunate. I am sure the whole House will join me in expressing deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

“This House strongly condemns the terrorist attack and reiterates its firm resolve to confront such acts with determination and firmness,” he said.

Members of the Upper House then observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect to those who died in the attack.
