Gunmen attack BJP candidate's house, blast in Congress rally in J&K

Kulgam, Nov 12 (IBNS): Ahead of Assembly elections in the state, suspected militants on Wednesday fired on the house of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in south Kashmir's Kulgam area, which is about 69 kilometers away from capital Srinagar.

According to sources, some unknown gunmen fired on BJP candidate early in the morning. Sources further said that party leader was not present at the house during the time of attack.

While confirming the attack a senior police official told IBNS that unknown gunmen fired some shots towards BJP candidate Ghulam Hassan Zargar who is in the fray in forthcoming Assembly elections, which is due from 25 November.

He further said no one injured in the attack.

Soon after the attack, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Kashmir Police sealed the area and conducted searches.

Meanwhile, panic gripped Yaripora area of the Kulgam district in South Kashmir after a mysterious explosion was heard on Wednesday afternoon during an election rally of Congress candidate contesting on Homeshalibugh constituency.

However no one was injured in the incident.
