Gujarat declares quota for upper class economically backward communities
Ahmedabad, Apr 29 (IBNS) Gujarat state government on Friday declared 10 per cent reservation for the economically backward classes from all non-reserved castes in higher education institutions and government jobs in Gujarat, according to media reports.
The government will bring an ordinance in this regard on May 1, the foundation day of the state.
Members of all the upper caste communities in the state, including Patidars, Brahmins, Kshtriyas and Lohanas, with annual income less than Rs 6 lakh will get the benefit of the quota system.

The Patidar community has been agitating since last July for reservation under Economically Backward Class because traditionally identified as land-owning community, they were not qualified to seek reservation as Other Backward Class
