Kolkata, Jan 13 (IBNS)BJP leader Chandan Mitra on Wednesday said GST has potential to increase India’s GDP.

It has to be passed in this coming budget session.

"Congress party which first brought the bill is now opposing it," said, Chandan Mitra, MP and Chairman,

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce here .

He was speaking at “Status of the Indian Economy-Opportunities for accelerated growth” organised by MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

He said, "We should have accelerated growth and we have to achieve double digit growth by 2019-20. If double digit growth takes place, poverty will be significantly reduced and employment will also be generated. In the same way, MSME is the major contributor in GDP. MSME will serve better always and government has to support the MSME."

He also emphasised on rural infrastructure and said, agriculture and irrigation systems have to be improved because they are the major contributors in our GDP.

The Government is making all effort to enhance these systems to increase agricultural production.
