Grand hotel fire incident in Shimla: Case booked for negligence

Shimla, May 13 (UNI) The city police on Monday lodged a case of negligence in connection with an incident of fire which broke out at the Heritage Grand Hotel, a holiday of Home of Government of India here.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the estate officer of Central Public Works Department (CPWD), SHO Shimla Mr Sandeep Chaudhary said.

The fire that occurred at around 0045 hrs has completely destroyed the Mayo Block of the hotel.

According to the fire officials, property worth Rs 20 lakhs was destroyed in the fire.

No loss of life was reported.

It took about four hours by the five fire tenders to douse the flames.

The hotel’s Mayo Bhawan Block, Swagat Kaksh (Reception Counter) and five computers were gutted in the fire, the fire official said adding that three rooms of Directorate of Estate complex were also destroyed.

The block was under renovation when the the incident took place.

The fire tenders from Chhota Shimla, Bioleauganj and Sanjouli and Indian Army were deployed on the spot, the fire official added.

The exact cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, police added.
