Grand Alliance was only for LS polls, chances of new alliance before assembly elections in Bihar: Cong MLA

Patna, Aug 13 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and party MLC Prem Chandra Mishra on Tuesday questioned the very existence of Grand Alliance in Bihar saying it was floated only for Lok Sabha elections and new alliance of like minded parties might take its shape before 2020 Assembly elections in the state.

Mishra said that Grand Alliance comprising Congress, RJD, HAM, RLSP and VIP had come into being only for contesting together Lok Sabha elections in Bihar this year. After Lok Sabha elections, all constituent parties of the Grand Alliance were free to carry out its political activities in their own ways, he remarked.

"Like minded parties may join hands to form a new alliance before next Assembly elections in Bihar scheduled to be held in 2020," Congress leader said adding that as of now, no such alliance was in existence in Bihar.

Former Bihar Chief Minister and president of HAM Jeetan Ram Manjhi had also struck a strong blow to Grand Alliance on August 9 saying his party would contest alone in 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.

The issue before the party was not how many seats it would win by contesting alone but it would be an opportunity to show its presence in seats spread over the state, he had remarked while responding to query of media persons.

Political analysts had started raising the question mark over future of Grand Alliance after the announcement made by Manjhi to go it alone in next Bihar Assembly elections.

RJD spokesman Mritunjay Tiwary had tried to show the unity in Grand Alliance by claiming that Manjhi would continue in Grand Alliance and his statement was only for boosting the morale of his party workers besides strengthening mass base of the party.

It was democratic right of any party to try for expanding its mass base and there was nothing wrong in such exercise, he had remarked soon after announcement of Manjhi.
