Govt keen to free Waqf properties from clutches of mafias says Union Minister Naqvi

New Delhi, Feb 27 (IBNS): Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday that more than half of Waqf properties are under the clutches of waqf mafias, according to media reports.

The Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (I/C) was addressing the 75th meeting of Central Waqf Council, in New Delhi on Monday.

The Central Government has launched a campaign on war footing to free Waqf properties from clutches of Waqf mafia, the minister said.

He tweeted, "PM @narendramodi ‘s Govt has taken effective measures to utilize Waqf properties for socio-economic-educational empowerment of society."

Minister Naqvi said that discussion on development of Waqf properties held at 75th meeting of Central Waqf Council in New Delhi was "fruitful".

He also said, "Our aim is to make all the Waqf properties’ records digital in next one year. Centre is helping the states in this regard."

A delegation led by Sheikh Aboobacker Musliyar, General Secretary, All India Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama met the minister on Monday, media reported.
