George Soros's remarks direct attack on democratically elected govt: Union Minister Smriti Irani

New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday slammed Hungarian investor George Soros for his remarks against Prime Minister Modi, and said his intention is not only targeting the Prime Minister but the democratically elected government.

Addressing a press conference here at party headquarters BJP spokesperson Smriti Irani said, "Every Indian should give a befitting reply to the announcement of George Soros to demolish the democratically elected government of India."

Smriti Irani also called upon Indians to unitedly respond to 'foreign powers who try to intervene in India's democratic processes'.

Billionaire philanthropist George Soros said the turmoil at Gautam Adani’s business empire may weaken Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hold on the government.

Speaking about the recent report by US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research on the Adani Group, Soros in a speech had said, Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in parliament.

Taking on his statement the Minister said, "It is evident from his statements that he has pronounced funding over one billion dollars particularly to target leaders like PM Modi is significant."

"Indians have defeated such 'foreign powers' who tried to meddle with our internal affairs earlier as well, and will do so again. "I urge every Indian to give a fitting reply to George Soros," she added.

The Union Minister said he is a designated 'economic war criminal' who has declared his ill-intention towards India.

Irani said , "We as a nation are together with PM Modi laying the foundation for the future of our country that will not only fulfill our dreams but will lead to a resilient and stronger economy".

Calling his plan as "nefarious" one, she said George Soros wants a government that is pliable to his needs for making his plans successful.
