Gauri Lankesh murder: SIT arrest man from Jharkhand

Bengaluru/Aurangabad/UNI: One more suspect in the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh has been arrested from Jharkhand by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka police.

Lankesh was shot dead point blank, outside her residence in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017. Her murder sparked pan-India protest.

The suspect, identified as Rushikesh Devdikar alias Murali (44), was arrested on Thursday from a hideout at Katras in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, the SIT said on Friday.

He will be produced before a Judicial Magistrate.

Devdikar stayed in Hudco locality of Aurangabad district of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2016 in rented accommodation, a UNI report from Aurangabad said.

He use it to visit Solapur to five give tution to a group students. Devdikar also opened a Patanjali products store in a rented shop, which was managed by his wife and parents. However, the store was close after demonitisation.

With this, 12 people have been arrested in connection with murder of Lankesh. In July 2018, SIT arrested HL Suresh from Tumakuru, Rajesh Bangera from Kodagu, Mohan Nayak from Dakshina Kannada.

In June 2018, Parashuram Waghmare, 26, was arrested from Sindhagi in Vijaypura district of the state. Earlier his arrest, the police had arrested five people– KT Naveen Kumar, Amol Kale, Manohar Edve, Sujeeth Kumar alias Praveen and Amit Degvekar.
