G20: S Jaishankar discusses Indo-Pacific while meeting Australian, French counterparts

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended a trilateral meeting with his Australian and French counterparts, Penny Wong and Jean-Noel Barrot on the sidelines G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Johannesburg when they discussed issues related to the Indo-Pacific region.

After the meeting, S Jaishankar wrote on X: "Great to meet FMs @SenatorWong  and jnbarrot  at the India-Australia-France trilateral meeting in Johannesburg."

He said: " Our three countries have shared interests in the Indo-Pacific and the potential to strengthen each other’s position. Appreciate the ideas put forward in the trilateral and look forward to realizing them in practical ways."

Jaishankar was visiting Johannesburg to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the city.

Jaishankar also met European Union Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

"We discussed ties, developments in Europe, the Ukraine conflict and other global issues. Look forward to welcoming the EU Commission and EU College to India soon," he said.

Earlier in the day, he also met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

Following his meeting with the Chinese leader, Jaishankar wrote on X: "The G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Johannesburg provided an opportunity to meet CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi of China this morning on its sidelines."

According to media reports, they discussed Sino-India ties and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra resumption during the meeting.

Jaishankar-Lavrov Meet

S Jaishankar on Thursday met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the South African city of Johannesburg when they discussed the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Jaishankar said he also discussed India-Russia bilateral ties with the Russian leader.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM).

After the meeting, Jaishankar wrote on X: "Glad to meet FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia this evening in Johannesburg."

"Reviewed the continued progress of India-Russia bilateral cooperation," he said.

Jaishankar said: "Discussed recent developments pertaining to the Ukraine conflict, including his Riyadh meeting. Agreed to remain in touch."
