Free for all in Gujarat Assembly

Amedagad, Mar 14 (IBNS) : Fisticuffs and kickboxing were on lavish display while expletives spluttered as members of the ruling BJP and opposition Congress went for a free for all in the Gujarat Assembly on Wednesday, reports said.

The bedlam  that forced the Speaker Rajendra Trivedi to adjourn the house for 15 minutes, started after the Question Hour when Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel raised a point of order.  MLA Vikram Maadam sought to speak on it but was disallowed by the Speaker.

He was later suspended by the Speaker following which Congress MLA Amrish Der began speaking in his support.

At this point, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal passed some remarks that prompted Congress legislator Pratap Dudhat as well as another Congress MLA to rush towards the Well of the House. Dudhat even broke a microphone and hurled it towards Panchal. The Speaker later suspended Dudhat for the entire session and Der for the day,.

The Speaker also adjourned the House for 15 minutes. Following this,  Dudhat, who was marshalled out, came from another door  and  started beating Panchal from behind. This enraged  BJP MLAs, who  started thrashing  Dudhat, pushed him towards the floor of the house and kicked him hard.

MLAs from both the parties started abusing each other and many of them exchanged blows in the House.

This then led to two other MLAs -- Harsh Sanghvi from the BJP and Balwantsinh from Congress -- indulging in an aggressive verbal spat, following which sergeants pulled them aside.
