France backs India's move, asks Pakistan to act against terrorists
New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI/IBNS): In a major diplomatic win for India vis-a-vis sustaining pressure on Pakistan and destroying the terror camps, France on Tuesday 'recognised' Modi government's legitimacy in ensuring security against cross border terrorism.
In a statement, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France said - Pakistan must "put an end to the activities of the terrorist groups established in its territory".
"France, which stands alongside India in the fight against terrorism in all its forms, is fully committed to mobilizing the international community to punish the terrorists responsible for this attack and to block their channels of financing," the statement said.
It, however, said the "resumption of bilateral dialogue" between Islamabad and New Delhi was necessary in order to launch efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the disputes.
"We solemnly call on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint in order to avert any risk of military escalation and to preserve strategic stability in the region," the statement said.
Australia asks Pakistan to act against terrorists on its territory
The Australian government has expressed worry over the deteriorating relation between the nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan, especially in the wake of the February 14 attack in Pulwama that killed 40 Indian soldiers.
"Pakistan must take urgent and meaningful action against terrorist groups in its territory, including Jaish-e-Mohammed which has claimed responsibility for the 14 February bombing, and Lashkar-e-Taiba," said Australia's foreign minister Marise Payne.
"Pakistan must do everything possible to implement its own proscription of Jaish-e-Mohammed. It can no longer allow extremist groups the legal and physical space to operate from its territory," the minister said in a statement on Tuesday.
These steps, Australia believes, would make a substantial contribution to easing tensions and resolving the underlying causes of conflict.
"Australia urges both sides to exercise restraint, avoid any action which would endanger peace and security in the region and engage in dialogue to ensure that these issues are resolved peacefully," the minister added.
The UK has asked both India and Pakistan to find a diplomatic solution to the problem.
