Ranchi, Mar 24 (IBNS): Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in the fourth fodder scam case, verdict of which was delivered by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday, media reports said.

The court pronounced the veteran politician guilty in the case pertaining to alleged withdrawal of Rs 3.5 crore from the Dumka treasury ( now in Jharkhand) over two decades ago.

He is already serving a prison sentence in another fodder scam case.

The fodder scam involves  embezzlement of government funds in Bihar in the name of cattle fodder. The scam surfaced in the 1990s when Lalu Prasad was Chief Minister of undivided Bihar.

Lalu Prasad was convicted in the first fodder scam case in 2013 and sentenced to jail for five years.

He was convicted by a special CBI court in a second case on December 23, 2017, and sentenced to three-and-half years in jail for withdrawing money from Deogarh treasury.

In the third fodder scam case, the former CM was sentenced in January to five years' imprisonment. This case related to swindling of  money from the Chaibasa treasury.

The court, however, acquitted Jagannath Mishra in the case. Mishra, a former Bihar CM, was also acquitted in the second fodder scam case on December 23 last year.

Court judgement in the the fifth fodder scam (Doranda treasury) case is expected  in the coming months.
