Four dies as fire breaks out at ONGC plant near Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, Sept 3 (IBNS): The state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) on Tuesday confirmed that four people lost their lives in the massive fire which broke out in their Uran plant, which is located close to Navi Mumbai area, of Maharashtra on Tuesday.

The ONGC said three Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officers and one of the officers of the company lost their lives in the incident.

According to reports, three people were hurt in the incident.

Firefighters brought the flames under control in less than two hours time.

The ONGC earlier said: "Fire broke out in storm water drainage in Uran Plant early morning successfully doused within two hours by fire fighting team. #ONGC ’s robust crisis mitigation preparedness helped put off this major fire in a very short time."

Residents, who were staying close to the Uran plant, were directed to evacuate their residence.

Police had cordoned off areas within the proximity of one to two kilometres of the plant in Uran.

Earlier, the number of deaths in the incident was said to be seven by the media.
