Former West Bengal Assembly Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim passes away

Kolkata, Nov 2 (IBNS): Former West Bengal Assembly Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim passed away in Kolkata on Monday.

He was 80.

He had served the Assembly for 29 years from 1982 to 2011.

He had also served as the  Minister of Judicial Affairs during the first term of the Left Front government from 1977 to 1982.

"Deepest condolences to the family of long-serving former Speaker of WB Assembly Hashim Abdul Halim," West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

"Speaker Biman Banerjee is paying condolences. As I am not in Kolkata, Partha Chatterjee will be paying condolences," she said.
