Guwahati, June 15 (IBNS) : The Assam Forest department on Wednesday suspended Kaziranga National Park (KNP) director after recent killings of one horned rhino in the world heritage site and the state forest minister appealed for a high level probe by NIA into the rhino killing incidents.

A top official of the forest department said that, following the instruction of Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma the department had taken action against the official.

On June 7, a female rhino was poached inside the national park during state forest minister visit in the park.

Poachers had managed to flee with its horn and the KNP authority had tried to cover up the rhino killing incident.

Meanwhile, the state forest minister had appealed National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe into the rhino killing incidents in the world heritage site.

“I am already discussed with the state government and asked for a high level probe by NIA into the rhino killing incidents,” Pramila Rani Brahma said.
