For surgical strikes credit goes to Modi, I only helped him: Manohar Parrikar

New Delhi, Oct 12 (IBNS): Amid the opposition clamour that the BJP-led NDA Government is trying to take the credit of the Army's surgical strikes across the Line of Control, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that the major share of the glory for the act goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while he himself helped in the planning, reports said.

Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his senior ministers are exaggerating the government's role in the military action and trying to extract political mileage out of it.

The Congress has alleged that during its rule, three cross-border raids were carried out, but it did not publicise the military action on diplomatic and secrecy considerations.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal urged the Government to make public the evidence of the strike to silence Pakistan, which was denying that such an operation had taken place.

What Kejriwal said was perceived as an  insinuation that casts doubts on the Government's claim, though it was the Army that announced having accomplished the operation.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi drew flak from the BJP after accusing the PM of doing "khoon ki dalali"- a phrase  used to mean that Modi and his party were trying to benefit from the blood of soldiers.

Modi has asked his colleagues to show restraint and not go for  "chest-thumping" as several of his ministers' comments over surgical strikes prompted the opposition to try to politically  corner the Government.
