Five Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Rameswaram, Feb 21 (UNI) At least five Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested on Thursday by Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing off Neduntheevu, sources said.

A fisheries department official said here that the fishermen from Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district were fishing near Neduntheevu off Lankan coast when they were arrested.

Pudukottai Assistant Director of Fisheries Kumaresan said that the arrested fishermen were taken into Kangesanthurai along with their boat.

A total of eight fishermen from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district were also arrested and their two boats were also seized for allegedly fishing in Sri Lanka's territorial waters, he said.
