Five people arrested for looting Rs 20 lakh from a Mizoram woman

Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): Guwahati city police have arrested five persons, including three police personnel, for allegedly looting Rs 20 lakh from a Mizoram woman.

Based on a complaint lodged by the 23-year-old woman hailing from Mizoram’s capital city Aizawl for allegedly looting her to an amount of Rs 20 lakh, Guwahati city police on Friday had launched operation and arrested five persons including three police personnel and also recovered the looting amount.

Police also seized the vehicle used in the alleged looting incident.

The arrested personnel were identified as Sub-Inspector Jon Pathari, Pranjal Bora, Home Guard from Dispur police station Bipul Hazarika, Prakash Sonowal and the driver.

According to the reports, the incident took place near the Vivanta by Taj hotel in Guwahati on July 25 evening, where the police personnel had looted the amount from the woman.

The woman was guided by Prakash Sonowal who was the mastermind of the incident and the police personnel helped him to conduct the crime.

Guwahati city police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said that, police had arrested five persons including three police personnel who were involved in the crime.

“The incident took place nearby the Taj hotel. We had recovered Rs 20 lakh from the house of the driver and also recovered the Innova vehicle used in the crime. Prakash Sonowal had guided the woman, who was the mastermind of the incident. We had arrested two police Sub-Inspector, one Home Guard, civil driver and the mastermind Prakash Sonowal,” the top Assam cop said.
