Mumbai, Jun 28 (IBNS): Five people, including the pilot, were killed when a small chartered plane hired by the Uttar Pradesh government crashed in Mumbai’s residential Ghatkopar West area on Thursday, media reports said.

Preliminary reports said the VT-UPZ, KING AIR C90 plane crashed at a construction site near the thickly populated Sarvodaya Nagar while attempting to land.

Five fire tenders and disaster management teams were at the spot of the crash, reports quoted authorities as saying.

The aircraft belonged to UY Aviation and was in service since August 1995.

In images on Twitter, flames and thick, black smoke was seen rising from the wreckage.

Rescue operations are underway.
