New Delhi/UNI: The first shipment of vital Covid medical supplies, including 100 ventilators, from the UK reached Delhi early Tuesday morning, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

"International cooperation at work! Appreciate the shipment of vital medical supplies from Great Britain including 100 ventilators & 95 oxygen concentrators that arrived early this morning," MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet.

Bagchi also shared some pictures of the equipment being unloaded at the Delhi Airport.

The United Kingdom on Sunday had said it was sending life-saving medical equipment to India, to help the latter fight the devastating second wave of Covid infection.

"Vital medical equipment, including hundreds of oxygen concentrators and ventilators, is now on its way from the UK to India to support efforts to prevent the tragic loss of life from this terrible virus," UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had said.

On Tuesday, India reported 3,23,144 fresh cases of Covid-19, taking the country's Covid-19 tally to 1,76,36,307. Besides, the country also saw 2771 fatalities in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 1,97,894.

The country's health system has crumbled due to exponential rise in Covid cases in the strong second wave.
