First fight polls with Abhishek Banerjee: Mamata's challenge to Amit Shah in Bengal polls

Kolkata/IBNS: In a counter-attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over nepotism charge, West Bengal Chief MInister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to fight elections with her parliamentarian nephew Abhishek Banerjee.

In an unsparing attack on Shah, Banerjee said at a rally at Pailan in South 24 Parganas, "He is always saying Didi (Bua) and Bhatija. First you should fight the elections with bhatija and then Didi. I challenge Amit Shah to first fight the elections with Abhishek and tell (utter) the name."

Shah during his rally in South 24 Parganas on the same day accused Abhishek and his goons of looting people's money besides saying Trinamool is only keen to look after the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha MP.

Slamming Shah referring to his son Jay Shah, who is now the Indian cricket board secretary, Banerjee on Thursday said, "If Abhishek Banerjee is your bhaipo (nephew) then Amit Shah’s son is also my bhaipo. I will also talk about the corruption of his son. How did he become the leader in cricket and generated such a revenue?"

Rebutting Shah's allegations over Amphan reliefs, Banerjee said, "Who was there during Amphan? Nabanna, Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Medinipur were shaking. The Prime Minister came here to do drama by giving us our money only."

Shah on Thursday once again accused the ruling party of looting cyclone Amphan reliefs on the soil which was greatly affected by the calamity last year amid Covid-19 and lockdown.

"The Trinamool Congress goons had looted the money sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Amphan. The BJP government will investigate the looting of Amphan funding and punish the offenders," the Home Minister said.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Modi during his visit to West Bengal post-Amphan had praised the Mamata Banerjee government over its handling of both Covid-19 and Amphan situation.

"Whoever looted people will face music once the BJP comes to power. On the day of counting of votes, no Trinamool goon will be seen on roads," Shah added.
