Fire breaks out in Kolkata hospital, none hurt

Kolkata, Feb 1 (IBNS): A fire broke out at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata's Beniapukur area on Thursday evening, triggering panic among the patients and their family members, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen at around 5 pm. inside a bathroom on the second floor of the hospital's RRM Block and soon smoke reached the medicine ward located nearby.

As many as three fire tenders, local police, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and hospital's staffers rushed to the scene. Firemen fought for nearly 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

An official of the state-run hospital told IBNS that no casualty was reported in the incident.

"After the fire broke out, our staffers and security personnel reached the building and evacuated all patients and others from the nearby wards," the official said. "No person was injured in the incident."

The hospital authority, local police and fire department have started probe into the cause of the fire.
