Guwahati/IBNS: An FIR has been lodged against Prateek Hajela, former state coordinator of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, for allegedly tampering with the data, records associated with the final list of NRC which was published on Aug 31 last year.

Assam Public Works (APW) – the original petitioner in the Supreme Court leading to the NRC updation process has lodged a FIR against Prateek Hajela with the CID of Assam police on Tuesday.

APW also alleged that, Prateek Hajela and his associates including Wipro were involved in corruption and the accountant general has detected some malpractices.

In the FIR copy, the complainer stated that: “The Supreme Court of India vide order dated 13-8-2019 passed in the aforesaid case directed the State Coordinator, NRC, Assam of that time Sri Prateek Hajela to formulate a security regime of equal parameter as that of provided for securing AADHAR data before publishing the Final list of NRC so that no one can perform illegal activities after its final publication. Accordingly, the Final list of NRC was published on 31st August, 2019.”

APW president Abhijit Sarma said that Hajela disobeyed the Supreme Court’s order and committed cybercrimes by misusing his power.

“The final NRC was published on August 31 last year and from very that day we are against this NRC because the exclusion people number is very less. Huge corruption was committed on the whole process. The Accoutant General has audited the amount of Rs 712.8 crore and they have found corruption in amount of Rs 152 crore. The whole corruption was done by the State Coordinator and the software company mainly Wipro. We met the Union Home secretary Satyendra Garg on February 5 and asked him for an inquiry by the CBI or ED. We also filed an FIR before CID against Hajela for tampering of the final NRC list,” Abhijit Sarma said.

The final NRC list was published on August 31 last year by leaving over 19.06 lakh people.

The complete list containing 3.11 crore inclusions and over 19.06 lakh exclusions has been uploaded in the official website of the NRC State Coordinator following order of the Supreme Court.

Around Rs. 1600 crore has been spent in the entire updating process of NRC in Assam.
