Fifth phase Lok Sabha poll on Monday; Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rajnath, Smriti in fray

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The Fifth phase polling for 51 Lok Sabha seats spread across seven states will commence on Monday amid high security cover.

There are 674 aspirants before 8, 75, 88,722 voters at 96,000 polling booths.

At stake are 15 seats of Uttar Pradesh, 12 of Rajasthan, seven each of Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, five of Bihar, four of Jharkhand and two of Jammu and Kashmir.

The polling will come to an end in Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. In this phase, 12 per cent candidates in fray are women.

In fifth phase of polling of ongoing-seven phase Lok Sabha elections, fate of Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi (UP), Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi from Rae Barelli, Union Home Ministers Rajnath Singh --Lucknow, Smriti Irani--Amethi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy --Saran, and many others, will be sealed.

Top leaders of the political parties including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary for UP-East Priyanaka Gandhi Vadram, have campaigned for their respective candidates.

With the end of Fifth phase poll on Monday, the electoral process for 425 seats will be completed, leaving 118 seats or sixth and seventh phase poll.

In this phase the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow where Samajwadi Party has fielded Ms Poonam Sinha as its candidate. Ms Sinha is wife of former BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha who has recently joined Congress Party and contesting from Patna Sahib in Bihar.

The Union Minister Smriti Irani is once again challenging Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. Ms Irani lost to Rahul Gandhi by 1,07,923 votes.

Sonia Gandhi is contesting from Raebareli seat and BJP has fielded Dinesh Pratap Singh against her.
