Farmers to formally call off protest tomorrow after Centre agrees to demands
New Delhi/IBNS: Farmers, who have spent the last 15 months protesting against the farm laws and demanding for a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP), have decided to call off their agitation after accepting a second draft proposal from the government, media reports said.
"We have accepted the revised draft given by the Centre over our demands in regard to farmers' agitation against three farm laws. We will hold a meeting again tomorrow, as soon we receive a formal letter from centre. Protest is still underway," farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni said.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has said that it has received a revised draft proposal from the Centre and a consensus has been reached on the same.
SKM said that now a formal communication signed on the Centre's letterhead is awaited. It will meet again on Thursday at Singhu border, to take a formal decision thereafter to lift the morchas.
Early in the day, many developments and meetings happened after the receiving of revised draft proposals from the Centre.
In the morning, a five-member committee of SKM held a meeting to discuss it and expressed their concerns on cases registered against farmers in various states during agitation.
The SKM asked the government to withdraw all the cases immediately or set a deadline for the cases to be taken back, while stating that the MSP committee was also one of the important issues, which they wanted to discuss with the government.
"Several members raised concerns over some points on the government's proposal, so we made some amendments and sent it back to the government last night. Now, we are waiting for the government's response," Ashok Dhawale, one of the members of SKM committee, had earlier stated before the media.
