Families of Andhra encounter victims refuse to cremate bodies
Tiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu), Apr 10 (IBNS) Families of the alleged red sander smugglers who were gunned down by Andhra Pradesh Police giving rise to the allegation of a fake encounter, are refusing to cremate the bodies.
In all 20 people, who the police described as red sander smugglers, were shot dead in an alleged encounter in Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh on April 7.
All the deceased hailed from Tamil Nadu.
Protests were held in different parts of Tamil Nadu following the incident with claims that the victims were ordinary wood cutters.
Two of the alleged smugglers killed have been identified as Sashikumar and Murugan. Their families are protesting with their bodies by blocking the road in Padavedu, Tiruvannamalai demanding an impartial probe into the encounter.
Reports quoted Murugan's wife as saying, "They dragged him out of the bus and killed him. I have two daughters and no job or income."
Based on the petition filed by one of the deceased, the Madras High Court has put on hold the cremation of six men. The petition had asked the state government to conduct another post mortem on the bodies.
The lone survivor of the encounter who claimed that Andhra Pradesh Police pulled seven men out of a moving bus and killed them has left his home. His testimony before the Human Rights Commission will be crucial to know the fact.
