Even-odd car rule: Chetan Bhagat, Kejriwal indulge in Twitter war
New Delhi, Dec 10 (IBNS): Author Chetan Bhagat and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal indulged in a war of words on Twitter on Thursday over the AAP government's even-odd formula for private cars.
"Women exempt from odd-even rule. Soon, men in Delhi are going to wrap dupattas around their heads and driving their cars. Go Delhi go!," Bhagat tweeted.
"So odd-even rule doesn't apply to women only cars, for safety. Because men, you know, can never be robbed, attacked, feel unsafe or killed," he added.
Following these posts, Kejriwal re-tweeted a post by a netizen named Veena Venugopal saying: "Exactly how many pairs of feet can @chetan_bhagat's mouth hold at the same time?"
Another Aparna Jain slammed Bhagat, which was re-tweeted by Kejriwal as:"Is this guy for real?Does he even know what women go through using public transport?Why we have ladies compartments?"
Reacting to Kejriwal's re-tweets, Bhagat wrote: "Dear CM, when you retweet trolls making personal attacks on me,you tacitly encourage them. And that's what they are doing right now. Thanks."
This comes after Kejriwal on Wednesday said the government is considering whether to keep single women drivers out of the odd-even formula for cars in Delhi.
"We are considering exemptions for single women drivers, cars with only women and patients," the Chief Minister had said.
The Delhi government on Tuesday announced that its even-odd formula for private cars in the national capital will be followed between 8 am and 8 pm.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai said odd-numbered cars would be allowed on odd dates, like January 1, 3 and 5, and even-numbered cars on even dates.
On Sundays, all private cars will be allowed to ply on roads.
Earlier, Kejriwal promised to scrap the system if people find it hard to follow it in the first 15 days.
He had said that he and his ministers will also follow the rule.
From January 1, the vehicles with number plates ending with an odd number will be allowed to ply one day and those ending with an even number the next day.
However, this rule is not applicable on public transport.
The government informed that it hoped to cut down vehicular pollution in the state by half with this measure.
