Election is due in Italy, Amit Shah takes dig at Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi, Mar 3 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Saturday took a dig at Congress chief Rahul Gandhi saying election is due in Italy as the latter flew off to the European country at a time the poll results in three northeastern states came out.
Shah's comment came after the Congress failed to gain a single seat in Tripura and Nagaland polls.
Shah was quoted by The Times Of India saying, "Mujhe WhatsApp pe message aaya hai ki Italy mein chunaav hai (I received a message on WhatsApp that elections are currently on in Italy)."
Shah said this while addressing the media after the poll victories.
The BJP President's comment is targeted at Rahul's journey to Italy to meet his grandmother particularly at a time the crucial poll results came out.
In Tripura, the BJP has decimated the Manik Sarkar government by securing 43 in a 60-member Assembly with a poll left still in one constituency.
The Left, which secured just 16 seats coming down from earlier 51, could barely counter the "Chalo Paltai (Lets make a change)" slogan raised by the saffron brigade ahead of the election.
The Congress, which was earlier the prime opponent of the Left in Tripura, failed to even open its account in the midst of a bilateral contest between the Left and the Right wings.
In Nagaland, the BJP, which secured 29 seats, is optimist to form the next government pairing with its previous ally partner NPF which only bagged 29 seats.
Though Narendra Modi-Amit Shah had aimed for a three-on-three in the northeast polls, Meghalaya appears to be an obstacle.
In a hung Assembly in Meghalaya, the Congress has emerged as the single largest party with 21 seats though not getting the absolute majority. NPP got 19, BJP 2 and Others have bagged 17 seats.
