New Delhi, Nov 15 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India has barred the Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from using word 'Pappu', which refers to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, in their advertisement campaigns, media reports said.

The BJP were using word 'Pappu' to target Gandhi in the poll campaigns in Gujarat.

The saffron brigade uses the word to ridicule the Congress vice president onsocial media. The word loosely means "fool".

Asking to remove 'Pappu' form the ad. campaigns, the EC said the word is "derogatory".

The poll in Gujarat will be conducted in two phases, on Dec. 9 and 14.

The poll counting will take place on Dec. 18.

Presently the BJP is ruling Gujarat under chief minister Vijay Rupani.

The BJP is ruling in the state since 1995.
