Bahraich: A 75-year-old man was strangled to death by his two grandsons allegedly over a property dispute in the Matera area of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police sources said.

Police sources said that Chhotelal, a resident of Aswa Mohammadpur village, lived with his three grandsons.

"It is being alleged that Chhotelal was strangled to death by his two grandsons, Akhilesh and Bal Mukund, when he had gone to the fields in the morning," they said.

Police sources said that the villagers informed the other family members after they spotted the body.

"Chhotelal's grandson, Magan Bihari, has filed a complaint against his two brothers. It is being said that Akhilesh and Bal Mukund committed the crime of stealing land. Both the accused are absconding," they said.

Inspector Pramanand Tiwari said that a complaint has been received on the basis of which a case will be lodged and further action will be taken.

"The body has been sent for postmortem examination," he said.
