Muslims throughout India observed Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday with deep religious commitment and enthusiasm, participating in large prayer gatherings held in mosques and open areas nationwide.

Eid ul-Fitr, the most important festival occurring on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

President Droupadi Murmu wished the people of India on Eid and hoped that peace, progress and harmony prevailed in the country. In a messga on X, President Murmu wrote: "I wish all my countrymen, especially my Muslim brothers and sisters, a very happy Eid-ul-Fitr. This festival, celebrated after the holy month of Ramzan, spreads the spirit of unity, harmony and brotherhood.

“This festival of sharing happiness inspires forgiveness and charity. On this auspicious occasion, I wish that our country continues to progress on the path of progress and all the countrymen always live in peace."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people on Eid. In a post on X, the prime minister said, "Best wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this occasion further spread the spirit of compassion, togetherness and peace. May everyone be happy and healthy Eid Mubarak!"

In Delhi, the iconic dome of the Nizamuddin Dargah was illuminated with vibrant yellow lights, inviting attendees to partake in the Eid festivities. Marketplaces bustled with activity as people purchased sweets, garments, and necessities while exchanging warm greetings.

Security measures were heightened in the capital, with thorough police inspections ensuring a safe and tranquil celebration. Barricades were erected to manage the anticipated surge of visitors to the dargah.

Mumbai's Mohammed Ali Road prepped up like a bride as people shopped for sweets, dried fruits, and attire, expressing their anticipation and readiness for the festival. Sheer khurma, a special delicacy made from dates, milk, and vermicelli, was prepared for the occasion.

In Uttar Pradesh, Eid-ul-Fitr was joyously celebrated, with fervent prayers offered at Eidgahs and mosques across the state amidst tight security arrangements.

Post-namaz, people exchanged greetings, and a palpable enthusiasm was evident among children and youth. The Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were conducted at 37,018 Eidgahs and mosques across the state, with attendees praying for the nation's peace and prosperity.

In West Bengal's capital Kolkata, thousands of Muslims congregated at Red Road to participate in the Eid prayers, followed by festivities across the city, including motorcycle processions.

Warm embraces, exchange of greetings, and communal feasts were highlights of the celebrations at Nakhoda Masjid, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee also attended the prayers.

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, witnessed a large number of people offering special prayers at Idgah in Miralam Mandi, Secunderabad, and other locations in the twin cities, extending festival greetings afterward.

Families shared the special sweet dish, 'Sheer Khurma,' and spicy 'biryani' with relatives and friends, symbolizing the spirit of togetherness.

Elaborate security arrangements were made by the district administration and police at Idgahs to ensure a hassle-free prayer experience for worshippers.
