Eid celebrated in J & K and Kerala as rest of India waits for tomorrow
New Delhi, Jul 6 (IBNS) Eid-ul-Fitre is being celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala on Wednesday with religious gaiety and fervour, although the day of thanksgiving that comes after the holy month of Ramadan will be observed on Thursday in the rest of the country.
Reports said lakhs of Muslims attended congregational Eid prayers in mosaques across the two states after the Shawaal Crescent was sighted late on Tuesday evening.
In keeping with the religious tradition, faithfuls also gave alms to the needy and exchanging greetings and gifts.
However, in the rest of the country, Eid will be celebrated on Thursday, as Imam of Delhi's Fatehpuri Masjid Mufti Mohammad Mukarram Ahmed announced on Tuesday.
