Cairo/New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Sunday added one more feather to his crown as the Egyptian government conferred on him the prestigious  Order of Nile.

It is the highest state honour in the country.

The honour was conferred on him by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-sisi.

PMO India tweeted: "President Abdel Fattah El-sisi conferred Prime Minister @narendramodi with the highest state honour of Egypt, the 'Order of Nile.'"

The Order of the Nile (Kiladat El Nil) was established in 1915 and was one of the Kingdom of Egypt's principal orders until the monarchy was abolished in 1953.

It was then reconstituted as the Republic of Egypt's highest state honor.
