EC announces bye-elections to fill vacancies in LS seat and state Assemblies

New Delhi, Apr 19 (IBNS) The Election Commission, on Tuesday, announced that bye-elections to fill casual vacancies in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies of Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana will be held on May 16, 2016.

The parliamentary constituencies are Tura in Meghalaya, Kanubari in Arunachal Pradesh, Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir, Godda and Panki in Jharkhand, Talala in Gujarat, Jangipur and Bilari in Uttar Pradesh, Ghoradongari in Madhya Pradesh and Palair in Telangana.

The Gazette Notification will be issued on Apr 22 with Apr 29 as the last date for filing of nominations.

Nominations will be scrutinized on Apr 30. Withdrawal of candidature will be allowed until May 2.

With polling scheduled for May 16, counting of votes will take place on May 19.

The Election Commission announced that Electoral Roll for all the states with reference to Jan 1, 2016 has been finally published on Jan 11 except Telengana. Electoral Roll of Telangana with reference to Jan 1, 2016 will be finally published on May 31. The bye-election in the  Telengana will be held with the existing rolls.
