Drugs worth Rs 43 crore destroyed in Assam’s Karimganj

Guwahati/IBNS: The Karimganj district police and administration of Assam on Friday publically burnt a huge quantity of seized drugs worth Rs 43 crore.

Drugs worth Rs 43 crore were destroyed during a ‘Drugs disposal programme’ held at Police Reserve ground, Junitilla in Karimganj district.

Karimganj district police said that, around 3.16 kg of heroin worth Rs 12.64 crore, 4.51 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets worth Rs 22.57 crore, 1.11 lakh bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 5.56 crore, more than 2100 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.17 crore were destroyed.

Earlier on Thursday, a large quantity of seized drugs worth nearly Rs 1 crore was also destroyed in Barpeta district.

The seized narcotics and psychotropic substances disposed in presence of the Barpeta district Drugs Disposal Committee and 353.29 gram of brown sugar, 101.83 kg of ganja, 513 numbers of tablets, 614 bottles of cough syrup, 432 numbers of capsules were destroyed.
